Miwa Nishi is a painter born in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan.

After studying design and painting at Osaka College of Art, she returned to her hometown of Shirahama, where she has continued to create primarily in oil painting. Deeply influenced by French Impressionism and Symbolism, she spent approximately 15 years engaging in figurative painting, making regular visits to Paris and developing her practice.

 

Later, during her stay in New York, exposure to the international art scene prompted her to reevaluate her own artistic language, leading her into the world of abstract painting.

Her work seeks to visualize traces of human existence—such as the passage of time, accumulated emotions, and memories. These are not spontaneously created images, but rather forms that quietly emerge through years of experience and inner exploration. While learning from painters of past generations, she has patiently cultivated her own aesthetic and artistic sensibility.

 

Currently, she works between two bases: her atelier in Shirahama, Wakayama, and France.

Moving between the grounded tranquility of her hometown and the vibrant artistic culture of Paris, she continues to deepen her expression and practice.

 

She has held solo and group exhibitions both in Japan and internationally, and her works are part of private collections in the United States, Switzerland, Austria, France, and other countries.

 

Since her solo exhibition in Paris in 2022, she has been actively working between Paris and Wakayama.

In 2023, she participated in Saison de la Culture in Paris, and from 2024, she has expanded her activities as a member of the Taylor Foundation. She continues to exhibit in galleries throughout France while further exploring her artistic expression.

Miwa Nishi est une peintre originaire de la préfecture de Wakayama, au Japon.

Après avoir étudié le design et la peinture à l’école supérieure d’art d’Osaka, elle est retournée dans sa ville natale de Shirahama, où elle poursuit sa pratique artistique, principalement à l’huile.

Influencée par l’impressionnisme et le symbolisme français, elle a consacré environ 15 ans à la peinture figurative, effectuant de fréquents séjours à Paris pour nourrir sa démarche.

 

Par la suite, un séjour à New York et la confrontation avec la scène artistique internationale l’ont amenée à reconsidérer son propre langage artistique, l’ouvrant progressivement au monde de la peinture abstraite.

Ses œuvres cherchent à représenter visuellement les traces de l’existence humaine — le passage du temps, l’accumulation des émotions et de la mémoire.

Elles ne naissent pas de manière soudaine, mais émergent lentement à travers une longue expérience et une exploration intérieure profonde.

En s’inspirant des générations précédentes de peintres, elle a cultivé patiemment sa propre sensibilité esthétique et artistique.

 

Aujourd’hui, elle partage sa vie entre deux lieux : son atelier à Shirahama, au Japon, et la France.

Entre l’environnement paisible de sa région natale et la richesse culturelle de Paris, elle continue à approfondir son expression artistique.

 

Elle a présenté ses œuvres lors d’expositions personnelles et collectives, tant au Japon qu’à l’étranger, et ses peintures font partie de collections privées aux États-Unis, en Suisse, en Autriche, en France, et ailleurs.

 

Depuis une première exposition personnelle à Paris en 2022, elle mène une activité artistique entre Paris et Shirahama.

En 2023, elle a participé à la Saison de la Culture à Paris, et depuis 2024, elle développe son activité en tant que membre de la Fondation Taylor.

Elle continue à exposer dans différentes galeries en France tout en poursuivant une recherche artistique toujours plus approfondie.

西美和は、和歌山県出身の画家です。

大阪美術専門学校でデザインと絵画を学んだ後、故郷・白浜に戻り、油彩を中心に制作を続けてきました。フランスの印象派や象徴主義に影響を受け、パリへの渡航を重ねながら約15年にわたって具象絵画に取り組み、制作活動を行ってきました。

 

その後、ニューヨークでの滞在中に国際的なアートシーンに触れたことで、自身の表現を見つめ直し、抽象絵画の世界へと踏み出します。

彼女の作品は、時間の流れや感情・記憶の蓄積といった人間の存在の痕跡を、視覚的にとらえ表現することを目指しています。現在の作品は、突発的に生まれるものではなく、長年にわたる経験と内面の探求から静かに現れてくるものです。前世代の画家たちから学びながら、自身の美意識と芸術性を丁寧に育んできました。

 

現在は、和歌山県白浜のアトリエとフランスを拠点に、二つの土地を行き来しながら制作活動を行っています。

地域に根ざした静かな制作の場と、ヨーロッパの芸術文化の中心地であるパリの刺激とのあいだで、自身の表現を深め続けています。

 

これまでに日本国内外で個展・グループ展を開催しており、アメリカ、スイス、オーストリア、フランスなど、各国の個人コレクションにも作品が収蔵されています。

 

2022年にパリで小規模な個展を開催して以来、パリと和歌山の二拠点で活動を展開。2023年にはパリの「サゾン・ド・キュルチュール」に参加し、2024年より「テイラー財団」メンバーとしても活動を広げています。2024年以降はフランス国内のギャラリーでの展示も重ね、より深い表現の探求を続けています。
